Miami’s Jazz Saxophonist Leo Casino along with National Smooth Jazz Recording Artists Pamela Williams and Ken Navarro will headline Memphis, TN 1^st Annual Jazz & Artz Festival on Saturday May 18th 2002. Mr. Casino will be on Channel 3 Early Morning Show on Friday, May 17th 2002 and on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Casino will do a pre-festival performance at Mars Music, in Memphis, TN. After his performance in Memphis, TN, Mr. Casino will be traveling to Kingston, Jamaica to performance in the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival from May 23rd to May 26th 2002. Jazz artist Leo Casino holds the extraordinary distinction of being the first Jazz Major in the USA where studied under the great Donald Byrd and Quincy Jones at the best and prestigious Howard University, Washington, DC. Mr. Casino released his debut single "Better Days" after the September 11^th "Attack on America" Leo sends a strong message in both songs "Better Days" and "Gods' Love" to everyone in America. Leo has performed with many other great artists such as: George Benson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Neil Diamond, Jimi Hendrix, Donny Hathaway, Peter Tosh, Neville Brothers, Miles Jaye, Bob Marley, Gloria Gaynor, Robert Flack, Lionel Richie(Photo above), Grace Jones, Meat Loaf and Jaco Pastorius to name a few. Mr. Casino is under the management Jazzid Entertainment & Productions, Corp., based outside of Memphis, TN. Sax tress Pamela Williams trademark sultry performances and stunning looks set her apart from her peers and landed her on Billboard’s specialty charts.

Her debut album, “Saxtress” met with critical acclaim and included guest vocals by Patti Labelle and Teena Marie (Ms. Williams is Teena Marie’s musical director).
Ken Navarro is considered one of the top live Contemporary Jazz acts on the touring scene today. He has performed and recorded with artists as diverse as Doc Severinesen, Nell Carter, John Pattitucci, Dave Koz and Gregg Karukas. In 1997 I had the opportunity to play with Mr. Leo Casino ,when he was playing at the Taurus and his drummer didn't show up that night!There I was and played that night with his band. I had later an opportunity to play with him again! but I can tell you that night was a nightmare, because being out of playing drums for the last past 7 years, I lost the consistence needed when you play drums. on the next morning my all body was hurting me like an 80 years old man. Today, if I'm back in the music scene is because that night I got the feeling that music was calling me back. I'm more than grateful to Leo Casino, who made me play the drums again.

Dear Dr. Leo Casino,

I am grateful that you are interested in helping us with the Black Student Union Conference. I would like to know if you would be interested in being a keynote speaker for our conference on Saturday February 24, 2007. We would be honored to have you join the Reverend Al Sharpton, Dr. Lisa Delpit and Bishop Victor T. Curry as Keynote speakers for our conference on "Empowerment: Seaching and Finding Solutions". We are extremely excited about the conference because of the great people that we have involved with it.

The Black Student Union is not a new organization on Florida International University's campus. It was the second student organization founded on the campus of Florida International University. After being none active for several years it was revived by two members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. The first student organization of any kind at FIU was Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Lambda Tau chapter. Phi Beta Sigma is proud to be the sponsor of this years conference and it is important to us that the conference be a success so that we can show that our black students and communities are continuing in the traditions set by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Edward Waters, Ralph Bunche, and others.

As a proud member of both organizations I have been privileged to have the opportunity to chair the workshops and speakers committee. In my personal opinion it is the quality of speakers that will make this a memorable conference and really allow us to accomplish or goals of searching and finding solutions for issues affecting the black community and maybe most importantly empowering the next generation of leaders.
